As part of increasing work leads, and therefore work and clients, I’m aiming to start writing a bit more frequently about this – using LinkedIn as one channel, and here on my own site, and the experience of understanding how it may be useful for a freelance graphic designer (or creative – whatever you’re title is).
I could say increase contacts, or communication, or some other phrase that makes it sound altruistic, as if it wasn’t related to some self-interest, but really, we (or I’m believing we) are here to find potential work or return on something.
I’ve been quite anti LinkedIn – there is a degree of discomfort in it for me, for some reason. Most likely the ‘sell’ – and the style or manner it’s delivered, and that I’m not an extroverted person. This style doesn’t combine in a way that I see myself and how I plan on being on this platform/channel.
Below is what AI said I should write:
Excited to share that I’ll be increasing my presence on LinkedIn as a freelance graphic designer to connect with more clients and explore new opportunities. Initially hesitant due to the ‘sell’, I’ve reconsidered after reading an insightful article on using the platform wisely without the cringe factor. Looking forward to sharing my work and insights with you all soon! #FreelanceLife #GraphicDesign #LinkedInStrategy
For me, this reads pretty much exactly how I don’t talk. It’s not my voice. It feels unreal, machine like and ultimately like a lot of other stuff I read. I get it’s short and punchy – but there is a place for a bit more writing and thought, rather than shout and sell.
The reason for my change and reconsideration was an article on creativeboom that made me reconsider the value and approach – something that we often do as designers: look and find appropriate solutions for clients, however we do that.
Lets see if I can stick to a weekly, or bi-weekly post and what comes from it – I may even talk about some of my own work…
